About Me

Launched in 2011 as a place for teachers to learn how to integrate technology in their classrooms, The Tech Savvy Science Teacher has been my way of sharing what I know with others. If you love education technology or want to learn more about how it can be used in your classroom, then this is it blog for you. I was inspired by other bloggers out there and even had the ability to guest post on Free Technology for Teachers. I wanted to make my blog focused on resources that are general in nature so all teachers can benefit. As a science teacher I can't resist sharing some of my science ed tech favorites every once in a while.

As I mentioned above I am a science teacher and teach middle and high school students in general science, Biology and Chemistry. I knew that I wanted to be a teacher as far back as I can remember. In second grade, we all had to do research projects on things that we enjoyed. While my friends were choosing turtles and dogs, I choose to do my project about teaching. Ever since then I was hooked. I remember being in fifth and sixth grade and going to the first and second grade hallway during recess so that I could go back and help my prior teachers grade papers (I don't think that's even allowed nowadays). As time went on and I entered college, I knew I wanted to major in Elementary Education and wanted to be a second grade teacher just like my favorite teacher. At Boston College, education students had to double major so along with elementary education I choose General Science with a minor in Biology as I always loved science. After some pre-practicum experiences in first and third grades I decided that middle school was more my speed. It was too late to switch majors, but I was able to do a pre-practicum in a sixth grade science classroom as elementary education went up to sixth grade. After I graduated I took some more courses as an independent study so that I could get my certification in middle and high school Biology. Several years into my teaching my school needed a Chemistry teacher, so I took some more classes and earned my Chemistry certification. Now I am certified to teach students in grade 1-12 with my certifications in Elementary Education, Middle School Science, Biology and Chemistry. Throughout this process I was able to earn a Masters in Education from Fordham University in Curriculum and Teaching with a minor focus in Technology. I am currently pursing a PhD in Science Education from Stony Brook University.

I would love to interact with you more on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. I hope to see you there!
